colour changing display
Client Brief

The Client requirements was a window display to attract attention of passers by in the run up to the Olympic Games in Athens changing colour from red to white.  An effect that looked ‘high quality’ from a premium brand but at an economical price.  Completion was required in extremely short lead times.

Diagnosis

To achieve an effective colour change solution options were limited.  LED’s were investigated – these could achieve colour change and had the reliability, however light output v cost was an issue.

A fluorescent solution was then investigated, but would require dimming ballasts and a sequencer to fade tubes in and out alternately.  Alternate tubes could then be sleeved in red to achieve the colour change effect.  The sequencer had to be designed specifically for the project and Tridonic PCA ECO dimming ballasts were used.

Design/Development

Full working prototype was designed and manufactured within 2 weeks.  This unit was then fully evaluated in less than 1 week.

Manufacture

Advance Lighting assembled the complete displays which involved a high degree of project management to co-ordinate the components from a number of different sources.

Further Scope

There were also a number of other displays related to the project for premium locations e.g. Bull Ring Shopping Centre, Birmingham.  We manufactured, assembled and installed these within the required timescales.

Conclusions

By working closely in partnership with our customer and suppliers to design and produce a prototype within short timescales we exceeded the customers expectations and ensured that the displays were manufactured and in store in time for the brand to achieve the maximum exposure to their products in the run up to the Olympic Games.
